NAKINA – Nyquan Richardson lit up the scoreboard with 19 second-half points Thursday night as Clarkton School of Discovery rallied for a 42-39 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Nakina.

Nakina took a 33-23 lead into the final quarter, but Richardson made 4 straight free throws, drained a 3-point shot and canned two more baskets to key a 19-6 closing run that carried the Blue Devils to the victory.

Samaj Dove tossed in 2 baskets for Clarkton in the fourth quarter, and Shannon Hankins nailed a 3-point shot in the period.

Richardson’s 19 points topped the CSD scoring, and Hankins chipped in with 12 points. Dove and Lee Barnes added 4 points each.

Hankins bombed in a 3-point shot in the first quarter to keep Clarkton within 8-4 at the quarter break. Hankins drilled in another 3-ball, a 2-point basket and a free throw in the second period, but Nakina padded the lead to 24-12.

Richardson fired in a 3-point shot and made 5 free throws in the third quarter to rally Clarkton. Teammate Matt Kemp added a basket as the Blue Devils trimmed the margin to 33-23.

The Blue Devils will travel to Bladenboro Monday.
