NAKINA – Malcolm Bolden pumped in 20 points to lead Elizabethtown to a 38-26 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Nakina Monday night.
The Cougars started slowly with Bolden scoring their only first period basket as the Mustangs took a 6-2 lead.
Bolden caught fire in the second quarter connecting on a trio of baskets. Dominic Collins and Jacob Nixon bombed in 3-point shots, Phillip McKiver threw in a basket and a free throw, and Zamar Lewis popped in a basket as the Cougars rode a 17-5 spurt to a 19-11 halftime lead.
Bolden raced to the rim for 2 baskets and 2 free throws in the third quarter, and McKiver and Nixon drained 3-point shots as the lead grew to 30-16.
Bolden pumped in a trio of baskets and a free throw in the final quarter, and J’marius Smith tacked on a free throw. Nakina’s Riggins canned 6 free throws in the quarter.
McKiver and Nixon followed Bolden with 6 points each for the winners. Carter Lee led Nakina with 9 points, and Riggins added 8 points.
Coach Larry Williams’ Cougars raised their record to 8-1 and will travel to Hallsboro Tuesday.
