NAKINA –Alex Hidalgo and Malcolm Bolden scored two goals each Monday to lead Elizabethtown to a 4-2 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys soccer victory over Nakina.

In the seventh minute, Hidalgo converted a pass from Bolden into the first Cougar goal. Later in the half Bolden pounced on a loose ball, beat the Nakina midfield and backline and pounded a shot past the keeper for a 2-0 lead.

Nakina capitalized on a misclear in the box to trim the margin to 2-1.

Gabril Algozy sent a pass that Bolden drilled past the keeper to push the Cougar lead to 3-1. Bolden then dribbled past the Nakina midfield and backline and knocked in another shot that was disallowed as the official ruled that the shot didn’t beat the halftime whistle.

Nakina booted in a free kick from 25 yards out after a handball to trim the Elizabethtown lead to 3-2.

Algozy beat a defender and slid a pass to Hidalgo who tapped the ball into the net for the final Cougar goal. “We controlled the second half but were only able to put one goal away,” said Elizabethtown Coach Jay Raynor.

Fernando Rebollar was credited with 3 saves in goal for the Cougars.

The Cougars improved to 3-0 on the season and will play Bladenboro Tuesday at 5 p.m. at County Park in a battle of unbeaten teams.
