Tar Heel 3, Clarkton School of Discovery 2

Brandon Labra fired in two goals to lead Tar Heel to a 3-2 Bladen Five Middle School Conference victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Tuesday night at Bladen County Park.

Labra put the winners ahead early by scoring his first goal with 16:22 left in the first half. Clarkton’s Jacob Priest scored on a corner throw-in to tie the game 1-1 with 11:36 remaining in the half.

Tar Heel’s Jesus Perez answered with a goal 8:29 before halftime that edged the Panthers ahead 2-1. The score remained 2-1 at halftime.

Jay McGill’s assist set up a Gabe Barber goal that tied the score again 2-2 with 22 minutes left in the game. Labra then knocked in the goal that proved to be the game-winner with 16 minutes remaining.

Tar Heel improved to 3-0 with the victory and moved into sole possession of first place in the Bladen Five. Clarkton is now 1-1 in the league.

Thursday’s scheduled games have been moved up to Wednesday because of rain that is expected in the area Thursday. Tar Heel will play East Arcadia at4 p.m. Wednesday, and Clarkton will battle Elizabethtown in Wednesday’s second game.

Jesus Perez scored the second goal for Tar Heel after a clump of players were battling for the ball in front of the Clarkton net  After Brandon’s second goal, our defense was able to keep Clarkton from scoring a third goal. Defensivemen Johnathan Santana played well tonight and was a keystone for the defense.”
