TAR HEEL – Alyssa Strickland pitched a 5-hitter and struck out 13 batters to lead Elizabethtown to a 15-5 Waccamaw Middle School Conference victory over Tar Heel Thursday.

Lainey Hughes hammered a triple to leftfield, and Stacey Gomez belted a single that scored Hughes for a 1-0 Lady Cougar lead in the first inning.

Tar Heel answered in the home first. Madison Priest reached base, and Lauren Faircloth smacked a single. Both of them came around to score and vault the Lady Panthers ahead 2-1.

The Tar Heel lead grew to 5-1 in the second inning.  Hannah Richardson raked a single past third, Kaitlynn Brisson reached base on an error, and Katelynn Robinson and Madilyn Brisson drew walks. Faircloth hammered a single, and Richardson, Kaitlynn Brisson and Robinson scored runs in the inning.

Elizabethtown rallied with a 7-run third inning. Lauren Council, Iveonna Ward, Hughes, and Zoe Smith drew walks, and Laura Davisson and Laila Smith reached base on errors. Gomez and Strickland swatted singles, and Council, Davisson, Ward, Hughes, Gomez, Zoe Smith and Laila Smith scored runs to put the Lady Cougars up 8-5.

The Lady Cougars pushed across 3 more runs in the fourth inning. Davisson led off with a single, and Ward reached base, before Hughes slugged a home run that scored Davisson, Ward and Hughes to pad the lead to 11-5.

Elizabethtown pulled away with 4 runs in the fifth inning. Emmie started the inning with a single, and Council slugged a double. Davisson smashed a single, and Gomez and Laila Smith drew walks. Emmie, Council, Davisson and Gomez scored runs in the inning.

Hughes batted 2-3 with a home run, a triple and 3 runs scored to lead the Lady Cougars. Gomez finished 2-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Davisson batted 2-4 with 3 runs scored.

Council doubled and scored twice. Ward, Strickland and Emmie added one hit each. Ward scored 2 runs, and Zoe Smith, Laila Smith and Emmie scored one run each.

Faircloth batted 2-3 with a run scored to lead the Tar Heel hitters. Molly Pait slammed a double, and Richardson added a single. Priest, Richardson, Robinson and Kaitlynn Brisson scored runs.

Faircloth struck out 6 batters in the circle for Tar Heel.

Elizabethtown will travel to Williams Township Monday, while Tar Heel will visit Nakina.
