HARTSVILLE, SC – West Bladen grad Morgan Sweeney hammered a game-tying home run Thursday, and her Newberry Lady Wolves rallied for a 3-2 victory over Wingate in the opening round of the South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship Tournament.

Sweeney’s blast down the leftfield line tied the game 2-2 in the fifth inning. Teammate Hailey Drawe slammed a walk-off home run in the eighth inning to give Newberry the win.

Friday morning Newberry, the No. 3 seed in the double-elimination tournament, was edged 3-2 by No. 2 seed Lenoir Rhyne.

Friday afternoon Sweeney singled and scored a run in the fourth inning of Newberry’s 8-0 win over Queens.

The Lady Wolves advanced to play No. 4 seed Coker on Saturday.
