One of the most prestigious amateur golf tournaments was held this week in Pinehurst. Two Bladen golfers played in the Men’s Super Senior Division of the North & South Amateur Golf Tournament.
Willis Nance Jr. tied for 30th place is the super senior’s division with scores of 78-76-80=234.
Steve Hancock, who was 18th after two rounds, tied for 34th place with scores of 79-71-86=236.
Both players had to play in qualifying events to be able to play at Pinehurst.
Paul Simson shot 2-under par 70 Wednesday to win the tournament by two shots. The final round was played on the Pinehurst Resort No. 7 course.
Simson, from Raleigh, was one of only four players under par in Wednesday’s final round and was the lone golfer to finish below par for the tournament. He birdied the final three holes to secure the victory.
Steve Humphrey, from Ocala, Florida, led after two rounds, but shot 75 in the final round to finish second at even-par 216.
