Two local golfers, Willis Nance, Jr. of Clarkton and Steve Hancock of Elizabethtown, are participating in the North & South Golf Tournament Super Seniors Division at Pinehurst Country Club.

After the second round played Tuesday, August 15, Hancock was in 18th place with rounds of 79-71. Nance was in 33rd place with rounds of 78-76.

In Tuesday’s second round, Hancock had birdies on two of the three par 5s — No. 2 and No. 16 — and also birdied the par-4 fourth hole en route to his 1-under 71 round on the No. 5 course. In Monday’s opening round, double bogeys on No. 6 and No. 10 led to a 79 on the No. 4 course.

Nance opened Tuesday’s play on the No. 5 course with a double bogey on the first hole. He had three birdies during the round, but also had five bogeys, including three of the last four holes. On Monday, Nance, starting on No. 10, bogeyed three of his first five holes before recording pars on the final four holes of the back nine. He then parred the first three holes of the front side for seven consecutive pars, birdied No. 4 and parred No. 5, but played the final four holes at 4-over par.

Steve Humphrey from Ocala, Florida, leads after two rounds of the 54-hole tournament at 3-under 141. That is one shot ahead of Raleigh’s Dale Fuller and two shots ahead of Fred McCord of Collierville, Tennessee.

Wednesday’s final round will be played on the Pinehurst No. 7 course. Nance will tee off at 7:48 a.m. and Hancock will tee off at 8:33 a.m.
