New Charter School IS coming to Bladen County

The NC Charter Schools Advisory Board met in Raleigh on Monday and approved the application for a new charter school to open in Bladen County in the fall of 2017. The school is expected to open in August 2017 as a year-round school.

The new school will be called Emereau: Bladen, according to the application, and will be operated by the Emereau Foundation, Inc. It will not be part of the Bladen County Schools system.

The application does not list a location for the facility but indicates it could potentially be located near Elizabethtown.

According to the application, the school plans to open with grades kindergarten through grade 6 and projects to have an initial enrollment of 308 students with plans to add one grade per year reaching grade 12 by academic year 2023-24.

The application states the school will utilize the Common Core Standards and State Essential Standards, but will be utilizing the Mission and Formula for Greatness that are unique to Emereau schools.

The contact person listed for the Emreau: Bladen is Anna Caroline Cole, foundation chairman, of White Oak. At this time attempts to contact Cole for comment have been unsuccessful.

The foundation also applied to open four other charter schools which would be located in Halifax, Johnston, Nash and Wake counties as well. The only other application submitted by the foundation that was approved this week was Emereau: Halifax.
