BEULAVILLE- Junior Avery Gaby rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown to lead East Duplin to a 63-0 victory over West Bladen Friday night in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A Football Playoffs.

Gaby’s 49-yard TD run pushed the Panther lead to 14-0, Junior Kade Kennedy bolted 35 yards for the initial East Duplin touchdown. Kennedy totaled 70 yards rushing on just 3 carries.

Senior Quantez Whitley picked up 97 yards rushing on 9 attempts. Junior Nizaya Hall scored touchdowns on runs of 8 and 11 yards as the Panther grew their 21-0 1st quarter lead to 35-0 at halftime.

Senior quarterback Nick Cavanaugh threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Drew Henderson, and Henderson later scored on a 6-yard run. Junior Daunte Hall powered 2 yards for an East touchdown.

Sophomore Elam Moore sprinted 17 yards for a touchdown, and sophomore Tobie Sholar closed out the East scoring with a 7-yard scoring run. Sophomore Darwin Bonilla converted all 9 of his extra point kicks.

East Duplin, the No. 2 seed in the East, will host Clinton Friday. West Bladen finishes its season with a 3-6 record. It was the Knights 1st appearance in the playoffs since 2015.
