WINDSOR – Senior Akyia King sparked a 16-4 opening spurt that propelled Bertie to a 66-27 victory over West Bladen Tuesday night in the opening round of the NCHSAA Class 2A Girls Basketball Play-offs.

King poured in 14 of her game-high 25 points in the opening quarter for the Lady Falcons. Juniors Jessica Labra and Mikayla Meadows dropped in first period baskets for the Lady Knights.

Junior Seniah Johnson threw in a pair of baskets for West in the second quarter. Junior Kasee Singletary and Meadows tossed in a basket and a free throw each, and freshmen Haley George and Hannah Pait pumped in a basket each to keep the Lady Knights within 35-18 at halftime.

Johnson drilled in a 3-point shot, and Meadows netted a free throw in the third quarter, and Singletary sank a basket and 3 free throws in the final period.

Singletary led the Lady Knights with 8 points. Johnson followed with 7 points, and Meadows totaled 6 points.

Coach Brian McCleney’s Lady Knights completed their season with a 15-11 record.
