WASHINGTON – On Saturday, Congressman Robert Pittenger (NC-09) hosted special events in Charlotte and Fayetteville to help local students learn about opportunities at all five United States Service Academies.  More than 300 local students, parents, and teachers participated.

In Charlotte, students heard first-hand descriptions of academy life from West Point Cadet Ben Litton, a graduate of Charlotte Catholic, and U.S. Naval Academy Midshipman Connor Clavin, a Charlotte Christian graduate.  Representatives from West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy were available for one-on-one conversations at both events, along with Congressman Pittenger’s staff.

“These incredible young men and women are considering dedicating at least nine years of their lives in service of our nation,” said Congressman Pittenger.  “One of the best parts of my job is hosting this event year after year and being inspired by these students.  On Saturday, we were honored to meet and assist many of America’s future leaders.”

So far this academic year, 15 local students from North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District have received prestigious appointments to West Point, U.S. Naval Academy, and U.S. Air Force Academy.  Additional appointments are expected later this spring.

Local students interested in applying for a U.S. Service Academy nomination should contact Congressman Pittenger’s Charlotte office at 704-362-1060.
