National Weather Service

On Thursday March 10, 2016 from 9 to 1130 AM, you are invited to an all access overview of the Weather Surveillance Radar System (Doppler Radar) in Shallotte, NC. The radar is a critical part of the warning operations infrastructure in support of the NWS’s mission in protecting lives and property. This radar has been in service since 1995 and has helped to save lives across northeast SC and southeast NC.

Please let Steven Pfaff (Steven.Pfaff@noaa.gov) know if you would like to attend this event to take pictures, obtain b-roll, interview meteorologists, or just learn more about weather radar operations. If you would like to go up into the radar dome then you must wear shoes and clothing that will not hinder you from climbing multiple sets of stairs.  The address for the radar is: 990 Whiteville Rd., Shallotte, NC (next to Ward’s Paint and Body Shop).

Please note: In case of active weather on March 10th, the backup date for the radar event will be Friday March 11, 2016 from 9 to 1130 AM. Any decision regarding the backup date will be made by Wednesday March 9th.
