Former West Bladen High School basketball standout Rahu Purdie scored his 1,000th career point Saturday as a member of the Lander Bearcats.
The 5-foot-9 guard from White Oak made a jump shot with 7:52 remaining to play in Lander’s 87-74 win over Flagler to reach the milestone. Purdie, a junior, had 16 points on 7 of 16 from the field, including 2 of 4 from 3-point range. He also had seven assists, two steals and a rebound while 36 minutes.
The win improved Lander to 8-13 overall and 4-11 in the Peach Belt Conference. Purdie leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 16.4 points per game.
Purdie has started almost every game since arriving at the Greenwood, South Carolina-based university.
As a freshman in the 2015-16 season, Purdie played in 32 games and scored 280 points. He made 40 3-pointers and had 50 assists.
As a sophomore in 2016-17, Purdie scored 391 points in 30 games with 56 3-pointers and 102 assists.
This season, in 20 games, Purdie has scored 329 points, including 31 3-pointers, with 56 assists.
In 82 games with Lander, Purdie has scored 1,000 points and made 127 3-pointers. He also has 208 assists. He’s made 227 of 264 free throws, an 86 percent average.
