Agriculture is the leading industry for Bladen County, NC. A lot of area students take advantage of opportunities to learn more about the topic.
The Bladen County Agriculture Extension office announced a project coming up in the new year that may interest some of our local children. There will be a 2018 Chicken Project.
According to Stacie C. Kinlaw, with the N. C. Cooperative Extension – Bladen County Center, the upcoming project enables youth to learn and develop the responsibility for raising, caring, and showing chickens; provides opportunity for public speaking in front of a judge; creates an opportunity for egg business in the future; and many other great life skills.
Participants must be ages 5 to 18 as of January 1, 2018 to participate. They must be a member of FFA or 4-H, but membership in 4-H can be established by contacting the Bladen County 4-H agent to complete required enrollment forms.
Registration for the 2018 Chicken Project is now underway.
