Governor Roy Cooper signed a proclamation making this week, Public Safety Telecommunicator Week in North Carolina. On Tuesday, Bladen County Sheriff Jim McVicker recognized all of his telecommunicators with a special gift and letter of thanks for a job well done.

“Telecommunicators are a continuous and critical link between the public, law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services,” McVicker said. “When an emergency occurs, the prompt response by our telecommunicators to dispatch law enforcement, fire and paramedics is critical to the protection of life and property. We appreciate what they do every day and wanted to show our thanks to them.”

The Bladen County Sheriff’s Office employees eleven full time and three part time telecommunicators with 24 hour coverage, 7 days per week, with 2 to 3 dispatchers working at a time. The 911 Center covers law enforcement, fire and rescue dispatching.
