Dove’s BBQ, a family-owned-and-operated takeout restaurant that offers a variety of southern cuisine, is undergoing some major renovations in order to offer more to their customers and the community!

The Dove family is excited for the big things that are happening at their small business. The homestyle southern drive-in has been in business since 1997 when it was founded by Cindy B. Dove. The owners explained, “Dove’s is a family-owned and operated business. Teamwork and respect for one another is something we hold vital to our process! The family business is a generational concept in the Dove family.” They continued, “Talmadge and Melba Dove, Terry Lee’s parents, opened Dove’s Restaurant in Bladenboro around 1973. Terry and Cindy began assisting Talmadge and Melba in operating the restaurant around 1976. Terry and Cindy opened and managed Dove’s Country Kitchen in Bladenboro in 1989. After Cindy opened Dove’s BBQ in 1997, Stephen Dove, Terry and Cindy’s son, and his wife Amanda began overseeing the restaurant in 2008. The Dove’s family is a family of entrepreneurs!”

With years of experience and tradition under their belt, this family business is continuing to grow and improve. The owners shared, “Just like every small business, you have your ups and downs and unexpected circumstances. But, by sticking together while staying positive, you can power through the obstacles.” Small business owners have to work extra hard to keep their businesses alive, especially in the face of adversity.

The owners continued, “Nonetheless, the Covid-19 pandemic put our original renovation plans on hold for the past couple of years. Thankfully, we prevailed and are now in the process of major renovations of our dining area, such as live music and a lounge area for entertainment while dining or shopping our upcoming gift shop which will include some sporting/ fishing goods (bait and tackle), homemade goods and crafts, and also our Dove’s jared BBQ sauces and hot sauces!”

Here in Bladen County, we value charitable businesses – businesses that work extra hard so that they can help others. Dove’s BBQ/Dove’s Hardware donates to and partners with Harvest Table Inc., which is a 501C3 non-profit organization that serves Bladen, Columbus, and surrounding counties with food and necessities for those in need.

While some goals change over the years, some remain the same. According to the Dove family, “Our original goal was and still is to provide top quality food with a comfort-food-feel while making all of our customers feel welcomed and appreciated. Our goal with our upcoming dining room facility is to offer the very same quality comfort foods and welcoming atmosphere with a live music entertainment experience!”
