This week for our small business spotlight is Cory Russ’ business, Southern Sons Designs. Russ’ company specializes in CNC woodworks and laser engraving. Russ said, “We can do anything from custom signs, logos, yard signs, house number signs, whatever you need. It makes no difference.”
A CNC Wood Carving Machine is an automatic machine tool with a computer numerical control system supporting automatic carving, engraving, cutting, milling, drilling, and grooving on different materials, such as wood.
Russ’ business started in 2019 as a hobby, and he decided to make a business out of it. Russ said, “I started making wooden flags with 12 inches by 20 inches CNC machine. But I then started making other signs and logos, and now I have a four-foot by eight-foot machine to make huge signs now.”
What Russ does to make his custom wooden signs is you give him the design you want and he puts it into his software machine, then it laser cuts it. Everything else is hand painted, stained, then sealed.
