BLADENBORO – Junior Marlene Crabtree pitched a complete-game 6-hitter and drove in 3 runs with 2 hits as West Bladen claimed a 10-2 Southeastern Athletic Conference softball victory over Fairmont Tuesday night.

Coach Kaitlyn Sykes’ Lady Knights improved to 3-4 in SAC play and 3-7 overall and will visit Fairmont Friday night. The Lady Tornadoes are 2-5 in the league and 4-13 overall.

Crabtree walked 7 and struck out 3 but allowed only 2 runs. At the plate she was 2-for-4 with a double, 3 runs batted in and 2 runs scored. Junior Kallie Bass finished 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and 3 runs scored.

Juniors Holland Davis and Marlie Walters and sophomores Kali Allen and Brenna Hester belted 1 hit each for the winners. Allen had 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Hester had 2 RBIs. Davis scored 2 runs, and Walters scored a run.

Shonesty Hunt walked, and Alexa Grimsley cracked a single in the Fairmont 2nd inning. Kensley Newberry’s sacrifice fly plated Shonesty Hunt, and freshman Layla Hunt drove in Grimsley with a single for a 2-0 lead.

Bass blasted a triple to right field to start the West 2nd inning. Allen reached base on a fielder’s choice, and Crabtree reached base on an error that scored Bass. Hester smoked a single to right field that scored Allen and Crabtree and vaulted the Lady Knights in front 3-2.

Davis walked and Walters smacked a single off the pitcher to begin the West 5th inning. Both runners advanced as Bass reached base on a fielder’s choice, and Allen laced a single to center field that scored Davis and Walters. Crabtree hammered a double to right field that scored Bass and Allen. Senior Megan Pait reached base on an error that scored Crabtree to stretch the lead to 8-2.

Davis led off the Lady Knight 6th inning with a single to center field. Bass pounded a double to center. Allen lifted a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Davis. Sophomore Natalee Sykes reached base on an error that scored Bass for a 10-2 lead.

Layla Hunt batted 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI for Fairmont. Sophomore catcher Kimberleigh Stevens was 2-for-4 at the plate.

Freshman Zoee Chavis started in the circle for Fairmont and allowed 4 runs – 2 earned – on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7. Layla Hunt worked 2 innings of relief and gave up 6 runs – 4 earned – on 5 hits while striking out 3.
