ELIZABETHTOWN – West Bladen’s doubles teams of seniors Kaden Thurman & Lainey Autry won 2 matches Tuesday to reach Wednesday’s championship match in the Southeastern Athletic Conference girls’ tennis tournament.

The Thurman/Autry team received a 1st round bye as the top seed in the tournament then defeated the Fairmont team of Shaylia Barksdale & Jazlynn Hayes 6-1, 6-0. In the semi-finals, Thurman/Autry defeated the Clinton team of Ainsley Parker & Lensey Cabral 6-0, 6-2.

East Bladen’s doubles team of sophomores Anna Marie Miranda & Jackie Medina Leal defeated Red Springs’ Destiny Chavis & Jazlynn Love 6-2, 6-1 in their opening match. Miranda & Medina-Leal were defeated by St. Pauls’ Zuri Cantor & Dana Soriano (the No. 2 seed) 6-3, 7-5.

The Miranda/Medina-Leal team still has a chance Wednesday to qualify for the regionals if they can win 2 matches in the consolation bracket.

The East Bladen team of senior Ashlyn Williams & sophomore Leah McGill were seeded fifth and won their opening match 6-0, 6-0 over Red Springs’ Adrianna Locklear & Ashley Dominquez.

Williams & McGill were defeated by Clinton’s Parker/Cabral team 6-2, 6-0 then were eliminated in the consolation bracket in a 3-set match against Fairmont’s Barksdale & Hayes.

West Bladen’s Yuri Santana & Lauren Douglas dropped their opening match to Clinton’s Bridget Castillo & Emily Edgerton 6-1, 6-1.

East Bladen’s Reese Hester, the No. 5 seed in singles, defeated Red Springs’ Nathaly Ramirez 6-0, 6-0 in her opening match then lost to No. 4 seed Camille Kinard of St. Pauls 6-3, 6-3. Hester is still alive in the consolation bracket Wednesday for a regional seed.

East Bladen’s Chandler Bordeaux dropped a marathon 1st round match to Red Springs’ Destiny Locklear 6-7 (7-9), 7-6 (7-3) 6-2.

West Bladen senior Olivia Skipper lost her opening match to St. Pauls’ Lizeth Martinez 6-3, 6-1. The Lady Knights’ Madison Wilkins was defeated by Clinton’s Lilly Williams 6-0, 6-0.
