Calling all Tar Heel Panthers! Saturday, March 18, is a day you don’t want to miss!

The Tar Heel Middle School Beta Club is hosting an afternoon of activities at the school. The doors open at 4 p.m., and the games and activities will begin at 5. Alumni of all ages from the old Tar Heel High and also Tar Heel Middle are welcome to come and participate in the games.

Alumni basketball games for men and women will be the main attraction, but they will also have a 3-point contest, a free-throw contest, and a half-court contest. T-shirts, magnets, hats, and aerial photos of the campus will also be for sale. The concession stand will be open, too. The admission for the day is $5, and “half-and-half” tickets will be sold.

“It’s going to be a great day for the community and the alumni to come together and fellowship,” THMS Beta Sponsor Noel Edge Dennis said. “Our Tar Heel students have always had a lot of pride in our school, and this is another way to celebrate being a Panther.”

Mrs. Dennis said they will also recognize any former staff members from Tar Heel. She added, “We would love to have all alumni come, even if they’re not involved in the individual activities — just come to catch up with your former school friends.”

Proceeds from the day will go to help the Tar Heel Middle Beta Club students attend the national convention in Louisville, Kentucky, in June. The school won 18 awards at the State Convention and qualified to attend nationals. The current students won state awards in academics and arts, and two THMS students also were chosen as “Premier Performers” at the State Convention.

“We had an AWESOME showing at the State Convention,” Mrs. Dennis commented. “Going to nationals in Louisville is going to be the experience of a lifetime for our students, but we have to raise the money to get them there.”

If you want to sign up for the Alumni Basketball games or have any questions about the day’s activities, call the school at 910-862-2475 to reach Noel Edge Dennis (ext. 36502) or Amanda Abbott Murillo (ext. 36531). If you do not catch Mrs. Dennis or Mrs. Murillo in their rooms, please leave a voicemail with your number and they will call you back. (Both of these ladies are alumni of the school, and they’re currently on the staff at Tar Heel Middle!)

“We would love for the gym to be packed with Panthers on Saturday,” Mrs. Dennis said. “It’s going to be a great day in Tar Heel!”

Go, Panthers!
