Trustees for the Four County EMC Operation Round Up® TRUST fund recently awarded $4,500 to a local non-profit organization that provides services and support to disabled American veterans in Bladen County.

This grant helped the chapter install a much-needed roof at their meeting center located in Elizabethtown.  While more repairs are needed, the new roof now allows the group to hold meetings and assist veterans at the center, located at 502 South Cypress Street.

The chapter received its charter in 2017 and currently has 80 members. The namesake, Robert Curtis Hester, was a strong advocate for veterans and was instrumental in organizing the group. Hester passed away one week before they received their charter.

The DAV’s mission is to help veterans obtain the healthcare, disability, employment, education, and financial benefits they’ve earned. In addition to the Elizabethtown location, the chapter also offers an outreach program in Bladenboro to reach veterans in rural areas. Their goal is no veterans left behind. “All we can promise is that we will do our best to get our veterans what they deserve,” explains David Brown, the chapter’s commander.

DAV chapters receive funding through donations and chapter fundraisers held throughout the year. To learn more about the DAV, Ch. 99, contact Luther Wright at luther.wright.1975@icloud.com.

Four County members support organizations like the DAV by participating in Operation Round Up®, which rounds up their monthly bills to the next dollar. This spare change goes into a fund that is overseen by a nine-member Board of Directors.  Over 27,000 Four County members participate in Operation Round Up® and with every penny, we give back, we strengthen our communities. Four County is proud to play a part in making the communities we serve strong today and for years to come.
