Kayla Thompson of Clarkton shot 2-over par in the first round of the LPGA and Symetra Tour Qualifying Tournament Stage 1 held on the Shadow Ridge Course in Rancho Mirage, California on Thursday, August 22.
Thompson had 12 pars, 4 bogeys and 2 birdies for a 74 to tie for 121 out of 356 players.
The qualifying tournament continues on Friday.
Format is 72 holes of stroke play with a cut made after the third round. All players who complete 54 holes will receive Symetra Tour status for the 2020 season.
Thompson is a graduate of West Bladen High School and UNC Wilmington.
