Bladen County’s Kayla Thompson shot a third-round 78 Thursday in the LPGA/Epson Tour Stage 2 qualifying tournament in Venice, Florida.

The West Bladen High graduate was tied for 173rd at 17-over 233 through three rounds of the 72-hole tournament. She shot 76 Tuesday on the Panther Course and 79 Wednesday on the Bobcat Course.

Thompson is scheduled to tee off Friday at 8:23 a.m. on the Panther Course. All players who complete four rounds will earn a spot on the Epson Tour. The top 40 players and ties advance to the LPGA Q Series.

Playing on Plantation Golf and Country Club’s Bobcat Course, Thompson opened with a birdie on No. 10, her first hole, and made the turn at 1-over for the round. However, a quadruple bogey 9 on the par-5 fourth hole that led to a 6-over score for the round.

Amateur Ingrid Lindblad remained the leader after the third round at 13-under 203. Christina Kim was a shot back after carding a 65 Thursday. Alexandra Forsterling fired a 63 Thursday and was in third place at 205.
