Thoughts While ShavingFiling for the November municipal elections continues through noontime July 21, 2017.

Yesterday, a couple of filings for the Bladenboro political race, one for Mayor and one for Town Commissioner.  Larry W. Simmons became the 3rd candidate for Mayor and newcomer K. Rodney Hester filed for commissioner.  Simmons, a former Town Commissioner, will face incumbent Rufus P. Duckworth, III and newcomer Kenneth Charles Kelly in the fall election.

Clarkton incumbent J. Tim Tart filed for re-election as Town Commissioner.

Others who filed earlier:

Elizabethtown incumbents for Town Commissioner include:
Paula H. Greene
Rufus D. Lloyd
Herman L. Lewis
and newcomer and former police chief, Robert (Bobby) Kinlaw.

3 White Lake incumbent commissioners filed earlier:
Paul A. Evans
Michael (Mike) J. Suggs
Timothy (Tim) G. Blount

No candidates for Dublin, East Arcadia or Tar Heel offices early in the filing process.  The deadline for filing is noon, Friday July 21.  (more detailed info elsewhere on our news page)

So when will candidates interested in county, state and federal offices begin filing?  Glad you ask, shortly after the first of the new year, 2018.

A couple of reminders,
Thursday, July 13.  Summer Sounds Concert (free) at Cape Fear Farmers Market.  Jim Quick and the Coastline Band will provide the music, beginning at 6 PM.

Saturday, July 15.  Desmond Bryant Football Camp for youngsters ages 6-18 will be held at East Bladen High School.  Registration begins at 8 AM, activities planned from 8:30 – 12:30 PM.  Parent or guardian must be present for youngsters to register.  (Free)

Bryant, a defensive lineman for the Cleveland Browns, played for East Bladen.  He played his college ball at Harvard University, graduated, played a few years with the Oakland Raiders and later with Cleveland, signing a lucrative ($30M +) long term contract.

Good to see our summer-time residents at White Lake on the streets, in restaurants, on the golf course and shopping at local businesses throughout the area.  Hope you enjoy your vacation.
