Thoughts While Shaving

The parades are over, shopping is underway, church cantatas are planned (many his weekend) all in preparation for the arrival of Christmas Day.

For most, a huge celebration, for others a stressful time.  A good time to reach out and help those strugglin’ individuals and those working for organizations that do good work.

I attended a meeting recently where David Chesnutt, leader of Southeastern Carolina Crossroads was the speaker, the folks that work with addicted males, those on drugs and alcohol. He spoke about what was going on at the camp, about their needs.  Providing meals and $s for other needs, example, utilities, etc.  It’s an expensive project, but worth every dime.  They are a Christian based organization and not eligible for government support and no ‘sugar daddy’, but lots of individual and church support.  A good deed would be to go thru your closet, donate men’s clothing, pants, shirts, jackets, etc. that you no longer use to Southeast and load up on paper products, toilet tissue and paper towels, etc. or make a cash contribution, or both.  They purchase food through a food bank at a greatly reduced price, some retail outlets and food distributers actually donate to their cause, much is past the expiration date, but still good.

They are located off Susie Sand Hill Road, off NC 242 or US 701 at or near the Bladen State Lakes Forest, the former Camp E-Tik-Etu location, or you may leave your gifts at the Bladen Baptist office, 108 Mercer Mill Road, Elizabethtown.  They actually love folks visit their camp site.

No doubt there are others, individuals and organizations.  Bet your Christmas will be better if you reach out and help.  We have been taught that it is better to give than to receive.

Had not planned to discuss that topic today, but…..that’s my story and I am stickin’ to it.

A blessing is a circle of light drawn around a person to protect, heal and strengthen. John O’Donohue

How blessed are some people, whose lives have no fears, no dreads; to whom sleep is a blessing that comes nightly, and brings nothing but sweet dreams.  Bram Stoker

Every day’s a blessing, right?  It’s all in your control.  Martin Starr
