Elizabethtown All-Stars left yesterday for Louisiana. The Dixie Youth Class AAA (Minors) team will represent North Carolina in the World Series. Their first game is set for Saturday, 9 p.m. ET. Their opponent … Alabama. We wish them well, in their travel and on the field.

The big ‘thud’ yesterday was the drop of several hundred dollars at the NY Stock Exchange when the announcement was made about the possibility of more tariffs against ‘goods’ from China. Market was up $200, $300 or more … the drop was about $500-$600. The ‘thud’ was heard around the world. Actually, it was a promise of more by September 1, if no compromise is reached.

For many youngsters, the 2019-2020 school year is underway and will be soon for others.

Lower temps today, in the upper 80s and a 50% chance of rain is good news for youngsters preparing for high school football. Practice is underway, not just for football, but soccer, tennis and more.

Weather for the next couple of days includes the possibility of showers and thunderstorms mostly in the 50% range and temps gradually moving up to near 90 degrees by early next week.

I know, I sometimes sound like a broken record, but … ’bout this time every year, my mind wonders back to yesteryear. Tobacco festival in Clarkton, and tobacco markets going full-speed-ahead in Clarkton and other nearby towns. Money began to flow from the sale of the ‘golden weed’. Can still hear the chant of the auctioneer leading the sales, and buyers representing some of the largest companies in the world, strollin’ along purchasing one pallet at the time. We would know soon if it was a good crop or not. It was the #1 crop for years, but no more.

Oh well, change is necessary … I guess … can’t erase my memories … good and bad.

The best thing about memories is making them.

Memories are what warm you up from the inside. But they’re also what tear you apart.

The beautiful thing about memories is that they are yours; whether they are good, bad or indifferent. They belong to you, and no matter where you are now.

Memories are not just about the past. They can determine our future.
