Both East Bladen and West Bladen High Schools kicked off their official practice seasons Thursday evening, although inclement weather played a role in shortening the Eagles practice.

“Practice went great until lightning stopped us at the end,” said Eagle Coach Robby Priest. “We didn’t get to finish up with the ‘county fair’ (a conditioning drill).”

Priest wasn’t sure of the exact number of players present for the first official practice, but it was over 50.

Coach Jon Sherman’s West Bladen Knights also practiced Thursday evening and had 45 players in attendance.

Both county squads will open their season on August 23 at home. West Bladen will host South Brunswick in a game that was originally scheduled as an away game but will be played at West due to the installation of field turf that is underway at South Brunswick.

East Bladen will entertain perennial power Wallace-Rose Hill in an endowment game.
