Tonight (Tuesday), a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73 and light wind.

Wednesday, a 90% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 8 a.m. Some of the storm could produce ‘heavy rainfall’. High near 86.

Wednesday Night – Showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce the ‘heavy rainfall’. Low around 69. Northeast wind 6 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible.

Sad situation at UNC Chapel Hill yesterday … One killed, one arrested and no classes today…

Elwell ferry is operating, according to local NCDOT folks. If you never traveled across the Cape Fear River on the ferry, you should. Good experience … long drive for a very short thrill … I usually travel NC 53 to near Kelly … Look for signs, exit right and travel a short distance, maybe a mile, maybe less … exit the ferry, travel on to NC 87, then west to Elizabethtown or go east to Riegelwood and Wilmington.

Bladen County Solid Waste hours of operation for Monday, September 4, open usual hours, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. … However, the Transfer Station will be closed Monday … resume normal hours Tuesday, September 5.
