Kayla Thompson of Clarkton shot 1-over 73 in the first round of the LPGA and Epson Tour qualifying tournament Monday played at Mission Hills Country Club’s Dinah Shore course in Rancho Mirage, California.
Thompson is scheduled to tee off at 11:40 a.m. PDT Tuesday in the second round. She is playing with Sharmila Nicollet of India and Sophie Guo of China. They will be playing the Mission Hills Arnold Palmer course.
The top 95 players at the end of the tournament will advance to Stage 2 to be played in Venice, Fla. There were 88 players who shot under par in Monday’s first round.
Thompson lives in Clarkton and graduated from West Bladen High School.
