Thoughts While ShavingShortly after midnight, Hurricane Idalia is bearing down on Florida, landfall is expected between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. today (Wednesday).

Powerful winds reaching as high as 110 mph are forecast to spread inland to Tallahassee and Valdosta, Georgia… Flooding is a concern from Florida to North Carolina. Some areas could see as much as a foot of rain in just 24 to 48 hours.

Tornadoes are also possible from Tampa Bay, Orlando and Jacksonville up to Savannah, Georgia, and Wilmington, North Carolina.

Fast forward… Today (Wednesday). Showers and thunderstorms are likely in our area, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 5 p.m., High near 86… The chance of precipitation is 80%.

Tonight showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall, with a low near 68. Breezy, with a northeast wind 7 to 12 mph after midnight… wind gusts could be as high as 30 mph, with a 100% chance of rain.

Thursday, Showers… The rain could be heavy at times. High near 76. Windy, with north wind 22 to 26 mph, and gusts as high as 39 mph. The chance of rain is 80%.  New precipitation amounts between 2 and 3 inches possible…

Official watches and warnings: A Tropical Storm warning has been issued for Columbus, Inland Brunswick & New Hanover counties in North Carolina, and Florence, Darlington & and Marion, S.C… A tropical storm watch has been issued for Bladen, Robeson, and inland Pender, North Carolina and Darlington, Dillon and Marlboro counties in South Carolina.

Forecasts could change, all determine if the storm stays on its current path and pace. Tornadoes are possible as well…
