Thoughts While Shaving

Thoughts While ShavingThe Shriners Fish Fry held yesterday in E-town and B-boro appeared to be a huge success.  Lots of hard work hopefully paid off with Shriners Hospitals for Children reaping the benefits.

Remember David Smitherman?  He was Elizabethtown City Manager years ago, moved on to Lee County.  Later, began his own business, Bear Strategies, assisting city and county governments when hiring key personnel.  He is the new administrator in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.

Cade Hancock, 15-year-old Elizabethtown golfer, continues to play well.  His latest effort was in Myrtle Beach in the 14-15 year old category.  He fired rounds of 74-73-76 for a 223 total and finished 3rd, actually 2nd.  There was a two way tie at the top.

Had a little rain last night.  .18 inches recorded at the National Weather Service Center at the Curtis Brown Airport in Elizabethtown between 10:20 PM and 1:45 AM.  From one of the wettest months ever in October to one of the driest in November.

A reminder of the NCHSAA 2A football playoff game at South Columbus Friday evening.  The East Bladen Eagles will play the Stallions, game time is 7:30 PM.  And, a BladenOnline crew, Joe Melvin, Charlotte Smith and Gordon Kinlaw, will be broadcasting/rebroadcasting on BladenOnline Facebook using UTUBE.  One version will be live and a second version Saturday morning, again on BladenOnline Facebook.  I have told you more than I know.  A noble effort to fill a need (?) after a broadcast was no longer possible due to the fact there was no area FM station available to participate.  It’s experimental, but who knows, hope it works.

Incidentally, another good week statistically for BladenOnline, last week.  Holidays are tough competition for any form of news.  I always consider 100,000 pages viewed a huge success.  Last week, a little short with 91,431 for Thanksgiving week, compared with 78,042 for the same time period a year ago.   Visits last week were 17,121 compared with 13,376 a year ago.  Our most read article related to a fatal accident in the Bladenboro area that claimed the life of an elderly area couple.

Will be interesting to see how President-elect Donald Trump deals with potential conflicts of interest with all his holdings around the world.  Remember his charges of the Clinton’s pay-for-play.  Gov. Pence appears to be a very valuable addition to the team as Vice-President.

Why don’t some couples go to the gym?  Because some relationships don’t work out.

Butchers link sausage to make ends meat.

I don’t get people who stumble into mirrors.  They need to watch themselves.
