Happy Birthday to Shirley Leinwand … celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends yesterday … thinking about her first visit to Bladen, many years ago … A young lady from New York City came to Bladen with her new husband, Wallace. Must have been a culture shock … Wallace sold lots of merchandise, but his best sales job was getting her to come with him to live and raise a family in Bladen County … A belated Happy Birthday to Shirley … Wallace, former mayor of Elizabethtown, died several years ago.

Reminder of the special event planned for Friday in Bladenboro, the dedication of the New Town Square … more later…

And condolences to the Hesters and Clarks … My bride and I lost brother-in-laws in about a 72 hour time frame recently … One in Raleigh, one in Bladenboro. Funeral service for Harry Holcombe will be held Wednesday (tomorrow), 1 p.m. at Dublin First Baptist Church. Jack Livesay lived in Raleigh with his bride, the former Hazel Clark of Clarkton … Details of his services have not been announced.
