Thoughts While ShavingNorth Carolina has been designated as a proving ground pilot site for the testing of automated vehicle technologies.  So, if you see a vehicle with all occupants in the back seat????……It is coming.  The NC turnpike authority was selected from a competitive group of more than 60 applicants.  10 groups across the nation were selected.

Construction is underway, or will be soon, for 2 new Hardees in Bladen County, one in Tar Heel and the other in Elizabethtown.

If you plan to participate in the Casino Night fundraiser Saturday at Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery, and have not purchased a ticket, best you do so today.  Tickets are $50 each, only 200 are available and less than 20 remain.  It’s a fundraiser for Bladen County Committee of 100 and Bladen Agri-Industrial.  The only real money is what you pay for the ticket.  Call 910-645-2292 for details.

I know I am repeating some recent BladenOnline news, but think it worth repeating.  Two Bladen County schools have been targeted with threatening messages, 2 15-year olds have been arrested, thanks to swift action by the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department.  Punishment ranges up to 10 years in prison if charged as an adult.  Social media has changed the landscape but not the possibility of prison.  Parents need to make their youngsters aware of the consequences.

Bladen We Care has announced dates for 2017 annual fundraisers.  Golf tournament April 27 and Gala on May 5.  Mark your calendar.

Yesterday was a newsy day in Bladen.  Visit all our pages, news, sports, ag and so much more.

Larrell Murchison continues his visits to Division 1 schools, the latest is Georgia.  John Clark has it covered in our sports section.  The 6-4 290-pound defensive lineman is expected to make his choice known on or shortly after February 5, National Signing Day.

Keep reading John’s articles looking for the latest on twin brother Farrell.  Both have a bright future ahead.

One more piece of good news (?)….The federal and state tax folks began processing income tax returns Monday, January 23.  Those who are expecting a return are likely to file early, others of us will “drag it out” ’til April 15.

One in four corporations doesn’t pay any taxes.

We don’t pay taxes.  Only the little people pay taxes.  Leona Helmsley

I am frustrated when I am reminded that I pay more taxes than some of our wealthiest elected officials.  Robert G Hester
