Anyone remember Roy Tyner? He was a racer from Red Springs … Racer like a NASCAR driver, a Native American who participated in the late 50s until the early 70s. Thought I wanted to be a racer … Some of my friends and I visited his headquarters years ago in Red Springs … Tyner had several top 20 finishes … Often had a mohawk haircut … He allowed me to sit in his car … Thought I was a ‘cool dude’…

Dixie Youth baseball is ‘kicking off’ another season soon, like the next few days … throughout the area. Great program for youth … and their parents … Local volunteers spend lots of time working with the youngsters … they deserve our support … Check our Sports Page for more info … John Clark has it covered … COVID-19 makes it more difficult, but Mr. Clark keeps us all updated, and has for many, many years…

And, speaking of sports, one of my former sidekicks died this week … Walter Campbell, a very good high school football player. He was one of the stars on some of the Charlie Regan coached Elizabethtown High School teams from long ago … Walt and I broadcast high school football games for a year or two … I remember a game with Chadbourn High School (you know it was a long time ago). They had no accommodations, like a press box … The field had poor lighting … We broadcast a game from the back of a pickup truck on about the 10 year line … could barely see the players, much less their numbers … Must have been in the mid to late 60s, maybe early 70s…

Today’s weather forecast … GREAT DAY … Sunny, with a high near 76, southwest wind 3 to 7 mph. Mostly clear tonight, low around 43. Thursday, ’bout the same as today … Get out and enjoy…
