thoughts while shavingHad the pleasure of attending a special event Tuesday evening honoring longtime Bladen County Attorney Willam Leslie Johnson Jr. The event was sponsored by Bladen County and Bladen’s Bloomin’ Agri-Industrial Inc. See article on news page … The event was held at Aunt Bee’s restaurant in Bladenboro. Mr. Johnson has served as County Attorney for many years in addition to other legal services … with assistance from his 3 sons.

Weather forecast … Today (Wednesday), sunny with a high near 72, windy with gusts as high as 16 mph. Clear tonight with a low around 45. Thursday, sunny with a high near 68 … and more wind.

Looking ahead, the weather forecast is for rain Friday and Friday night … plan accordingly…

The NCAA Basketball Tournament is underway … Wagner recorded their first NCAA Tournament win ever last night … Their reward is to play top-seeded North Carolina Thursday as tournament play continues … Wagner’s last appearance in the tournament was 2003. In another First Four matchup yesterday, the Colorado State Rams defeated Virginia 57-42.

Play continues across the US.

Corn planting time is drawing near … as well as other crops … I miss seeing tobacco beds … long, narrow beds with a long sheet like cover … providing cover for small tobacco plants … and just about every tobacco farmer had one or more … and they seldom, no, never used the same location … and mostly in new ground…

If you see and hear more airplane traffic than usual … apparently, new pilots are being trained … in the area…

A sign of the season … Followed a huge tractor for a while recently … One where the operator is high up in the breeze … traveling ’bout 40 miles per hour … Good operator … Beats the heck out of following a mule or horse and wagon … jogging along, never in a hurry…
