Today is Veterans Day … A hearty salute to those who have or are still serving in the the military … Banks and Post Office are closed, according to my research, just about everything else is open as usual…

As a youngster, one of a big family of sharecroppers, it was about this time of year we ‘settled up’ and a decision was made on whether we stayed for another year or moved on … If moving, ‘packed up’ and moved, many times using a mule and wagon … kinda like the Beverly Hillbillies.

Remember cropping tobacco as a youngster. Most folks preferred ‘barning tobacco’ first couple of days or the later part of the week … did not want to be ‘curing’ tobacco on Sunday … I worked for one who did not let Sunday curing bother him … He ‘put-in’ tobacco on Wednesday … Paid cash to his helpers when the day was over and provided a cold Pepsi and ‘nabs’ … mid morning … I enjoyed working for him…

Redistricting at the state and county level is nearing completion … If I am correct, Bladen is in a new NC Senatorial district with Sampson, Pender and Duplin … For years, we were ‘grouped’ mostly with Columbus, Sampson, and Brunswick … one, two or more…

Candidates will begin filing for primary elections noon time, December 17 … statewide primary is March 8, 2022…

Star Communications annual meeting set for Saturday, November 13 at the Sampson County Agri-Exposition Center, 414 Warsaw Road, in Clinton, N.C. Program begins at 10 a.m.

‘Bout time for church choirs to begin practicing for the Christmas season … Tunes from yesteryear…

“And so I’m offering this simple phrase to kids from one to 92. Although it’s been said many times, many ways, Merry Christmas to you.” The Christmas Song

“Christmas Eve will find me where the lovelight gleams. I’ll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams.” I’ll be Home for Christmas

“I’m dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ones I used to know. Where the treetops glisten and children listen, to hear sleigh bells in the snow.” White Christmas
