The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 3 p.m. Friday for Bladen County and surrounding areas.

A watch means conditions may be favorable for a tornado to form. A warning means a tornado has been spotted.

The watch area also includes Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, Pender and Robeson counties along with eight counties in South Carolina.

The watch was issued as Tropical Depression Nicole impacts area weather Friday. The storm may bring as much as two inches of rain to some areas with wind gusts as high as 45 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm is expected to no longer impact the area by Friday night. Saturday’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies, with a high near 78. Southwest wind 6 to 8 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Nicole will continue weakening as it moves further inland, eventually becoming a Post-Tropical system by Friday evening. The system will continue to impact much of the East Coast as Nicole transitions to a Post-Tropical system and interacts with a broader-scale trough sweeping eastward.
