CERRO GORDO – East Bladen opened Waccamaw Conference volleyball play Tuesday night with a 3-0 sweep of West Columbus by set scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-12.
Junior Mollie Tolar hammered in 10 aces and 4 kills to lead the East Bladen attack. Senior Molly Evans handed out 8 assists and drilled in 5 aces and a kill. Junior Martha Simmons fired in 3 aces.
Junior Iveonna “NeNe” Ward lit up the scoreboard with 7 aces and a kill for the winners. Junior Mary Frances Sutton slammed in 3 kills and 4 aces. Senior Dyiamon Robinson spiked in 4 kills and had an assist.
Senior Zoe Smith knocked in 4 kills, 2 aces and had a dig for the Lady Eagles. Junior Miriam DeVane smacked in an ace, and senior Karly Ross came up with 1 dig.
Coach Jordan Raynor’s Lady Eagles improved to 3-5 overall with the victory and will travel to Pender Thursday night.
