RED SPRINGS – Red Springs defeated East Bladen 3-1 Wednesday night in Three Rivers Conference volleyball action by set scores of 29-27, 19-25, 25-15 and 25-14.

Red Springs jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first set, but junior Lorna Mendell banged in 4 service points, and junior Lila McDuffie added 3 service points to edge the Lady Eagles ahead 16-15. The Lady Red Devils pulled out a 29-27 win in the set.

A trio of service points from junior Gracyn Martin kept the Lady Eagles even at 7-7 in Set 2. A pair of service points from McDuffie followed by six straight service points from senior Sarah Johnson vaulted East Bladen ahead 17-13.

Sophmore Katie Evans kept the Lady Eagles on top 20-18, before Mendell served out the set with three straight service points.

Red Springs took the next two sets to secure the win.

Mendell pounded in 8 kills and 6 aces and totaled 8 service points and one dig. Johnson knocked in 11 service points, 4 kills, 2 aces and a block. Junior Cybil Campbell slammed in 4 kills, an ace and 2 service points.

Junior Ruth Ward finished with 3 kills, a block, an ace and a dig. Martin rang up 7 service points, 2 aces, 2 blocks and a dig. McDuffie followed with 5 service points, 2 kills and an ace.

Evans drilled in 4 service points, a kill and an ace and had a dig. Sophmore Kayleigh Raynor smacked in a kill.

East Bladen will host West Columbus Thursday at 4:30.
