FAIRMONT – For years Fairmont has been known as the hottest gym in the area. Tuesday night the air-conditioning was turned on – and condensate from the air-conditioning unit leaked through the ceiling onto the gym floor causing the varsity boys basketball game to be suspended.
West Bladen led the defending Three Rivers Conference champion Tornadoes 26-20 when the game was stopped with five minutes left in the second period. The game will be resumed from that point at a later date.
Sophomore Shyron Adams drained a pair of 3-point shots, and senior Keshawn Lewis buried another 3-ball as the Knights built a 17-13 first quarter lead. Senior Jaheim Lesane and junior Tyre Boykin tossed in one basket and one free throw each in the quarter.
Adams nailed another 3-point shot, and Boykin, senior Jackson Norris and Nijeah McKoy pumped in one basket each to pad the West lead to 26-20 before the game was stopped.
Senior Kaheem Pittman, a 6-3 center, dropped in 9 points to lead Fairmont. Sharron Wilson, a 6-4 junior, tallied 4 points.
West Bladen will travel to Union Wednesday night for a non-conference game.
