Influenza, also known as the flu, is in full swing according to several health care providers. According to our local hospital staff members, many patients are seeking relief from the flu in our county. The Bladen County Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have 8 key facts about Influenza.

Our local health department is also offering the flu vaccine. According to Marianne Valentiner with the health department the following flu vaccines are available at the health department’s vaccine clinic.

·       the Flu vaccine (ages 6 months and up)

·       the Flu Intradermal vaccine (90% shorter needle)

·       the High Dose Flu vaccine (is recommended for ages 65 and older)

The health department will bill your insurance for vaccine services. You must have your insurance information available. If the vaccine is not covered by your insurance, you can still receive the vaccine. The cost of the vaccine will range from $35.00-$55.00 which will be due at the time of registration.

The insurances currently accepted by the health department are as listed:

·       Blue Cross Blue Shield

·       United Health Care

·       Cigna

·       Medcost

·       Medicare

·       Medicaid
