The Medicine Shoppe in Bladenboro has moved to 305 S. Main Street while their former location is undergoing repairs from damage received during Hurricane Matthew.  Rebecca Hester, owner of the Medicine Shoppe, said that they have rented the location at 305 S. Main Street for three months.

Hester said the building that formerly housed the Medicine Shoppe is undergoing restoration and it was learned that facility had asbestos.

“We have to have an asbestos abatement, so we moved out,” said Hester.

She said the old building will need extensive repair. Hester said the building was flooded with two feet of water and there was also water that leaked through the roof. She said that some computers received water damage due to the leaking roof. Hester said that everything from two feet and below must be removed and/or replaced.

Hester said she and her staff managed to salvage some items such as a set of over-the-counter shelves, and some computers that did not get wet.  Those items are being utilized to the new location.

“We really like this building. Our customers love the drive-through,” said Hester.

The new location is a former bank building and also has housed the Bladenboro Town Offices.  Hester said that in preparation for the move, new carpeting was installed in the new building and the drive-through window needed some repairs. She said that it has taken about two months to work out the details and prepare the new building for the move.

Hester said the new location is more convenient. “If we can fit everything in here, we’d like to stay,” said Hester.

She said that the community has been helpful as they attempt to recover from Hurricane Matthew’s wrath. Hester said that during the weekend, members of Boost the ‘Boro, one employee and family members assisted with the move.
