ELIZABETHTOWN – Freshman Jay McKoy and sophomore Jay McGill fired in 2 goals each to lead the East Bladen Eagles to a 5-1 non-conference men’s soccer victory over Scotland Thursday night.

McKoy turned a feed from freshman Will Hester into the first Eagle goal in the fifth minute. “Jay juked the goalie and scored from 8 yards out,” said East Coach Jay Raynor.

McKoy also scored the second goal off a feed from sophmore Ebrahim Algozy. “He dribbled the goalie and finished it from 8 yards out,” noted Coach Raynor.

A free kick resulted in the third Eagle goal. McGill played the kick to sophmore Jose Arteaga who blasted the shot in from 24 yards out.

Arteaga sent a corner kick to freshman A. J. Smith who converted the kick into the fourth East Bladen goal and a 4-0 halftime lead.

In the second half Algozy played a through ball to McGill who beat the keeper and scored into an open net from 8 yards out for a 5-0 Eagle lead. Scotland scored on a penalty kick with ten minutes left to play.

“We played a solid game,” said Coach Raynor. “Our speed was a huge problem for them. We capitalized on that and were the aggressors in the first half. Fatigue set in and we got caught in some tough situations in the second half.”

Jay McKoy, Arteaga and Smith scored their first goals of the season. “That was awesome to see,” continued Raynor. “Had a great game from Drew (Sholar) in the back tonight. When we were caught out of shape he came up with some big tackles.”

“Jay McKoy and Will up top worked well together and the Algozy’s (Sulamon and Ebrahim) and Jackson (Bostic) really controlled the midfield,” said Raynor. “We were able to move the ball through Jay McGill and those guys helped link and connect those passes to our front line that put us in the attacking one/third relatively quick.”

“Jacob Priest had another great game between the sticks,” added Raynor. “His leadership is really starting to show. He did a great job of keeping the back line in shape as well as helped communicate to them when to stop and make plays. Reid (Potter) and Aaron (Todd) came up some big stops and really helped get our attack started from the back.”

The Eagle jayvees are now 2-0 on the season.
