TAR HEEL – AnnaGrey Heustess and Maegan Burney combined for 29 points Monday to lead Clarkton School of Discovery to a 41-14 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls basketball victory over Tar Heel.
Heustess worked the paint for 4 baskets and a free throw in the opening period, and Burney added a basket as the Lady Blue Devils raced to an 11-2 lead. Harmony Jacobs tossed in the Tar Heel basket.
Burney lit up the scoreboard with 4 baskets in the second quarter. Teammate Karli Priest threw in a basket, Heustess canned a pair of free throws, and Cate Devane made a free throw as the Clarkton lead grew to 24-9 at halftime.
Tiannah Willis bombed in a 3-point shot and another basket for the Lady Panthers in the second period. Teammate Len’ya Harrell also popped in a basket.
Heustess dropped in a trio of baskets for the Lady Blue Devils in the third quarter. Gabby Nealey flipped in a basket, and Shy’Asia Ratliff cashed in 2 foul shots as the CSD lead grew to 34-12. Azillyah McDonald hurled in a Tar Heel basket, and Alina Chavez made a free throw.
Burney, Addie Bowen and Molly Evans netted Lady Blue Devil baskets in the final quarter, and Ratliff hit a free throw. Jacobs tallied a basket for Tar Heel.
Heustess led all scorers with 17 points, and Burney racked up 12 points. Willis topped the Lady Panther scoring with 5 points, and Jacobs totaled 4 points.
Coach Chris Callihan’s Lady Blue Devils improved to 9-1 on the season and will host Tar Heel, now 1-6, on Feb. 7th. Tar Heel will entertain Nakina Tuesday.
