HALLSBORO – Makayla Dixon and Maegan Burney sparked an 18-5 fourth quarter blitz that rallied Clarkton School of Discovery to a 30-25 Waccamaw Middle School Conference girls basketball victory over Hallsboro.

Dixon and Burney threw in 3 baskets each in the fourth quarter, and Dixon sank 2 free throws. AnnaGrey Heustess dropped in a basket and a free throw, and Karli Priest canned a free throw as the Lady Blue Devils overcame a 20-12 deficit.

Burney led the Clarkton scoring with 12 points, and Dixon followed with 10 points. Heustess finished with 7 points. Karli Godwin topped the Hallsboro scoring with 11 points, and Harmony Sumerville added 8 points.

Sumerville scored 2 baskets as the Lady Tigers built a 10-6 first quarter lead. Burney tossed in 2 baskets, and Heustess worked the paint for a basket to keep Clarkton close.

Burney pumped in the only Lady Blue Devil basket of the second quarter as the Hallsboro lead grew to 14-8. Dixon and Heustess flipped in baskets for Clarkton in the third quarter.

Coach Chris Callihan’s Lady Blue Devils improved to 12-1 for the season and will travel to Williams Township Thursday.
