HALLSBORO – Hallsboro built a 13-5 halftime lead en route to a 36-29 Waccamaw Middle School Conference boys basketball victory over Clarkton School of Discovery Tuesday night.
Shannon Hankins scored the only Clarkton basket in the first period as the Tigers edged ahead 3-2. Samaj Dove pumped in a basket and a free throw in the second quarter for the Blue Devils, but Hallsboro tallied 10 points to open up the 13-5 lead.
Aniyaes Bethea tossed in a basket and 2 free throws for the Blue Devils in the third quarter, and Corey Robbins nailed a 3-point shot. Lee Barnes added a free throw, but the Tigers maintained a 22-13 lead.
Both teams caught fire in the final period as Keyon McKoy bombed in a pair of 3-point shots for CSD. Teammate Jonathan Johnson drained a 3-point shot, and Barnes cashed in a trio of free throws. Dove and Rodney Lacewell also threw in baskets.
Bobby Barsh scored 7 of his team-high 11 points for Hallsboro in the final period. Teammate Jayson Holmes finished with 9 points.
The Blue Devils, now 3-9, will visit Williams Township Thursday.
