ELIZABETHTOWN – Elizabethtown defeated West Robeson National 8-1 Friday night in the opening round of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 AAA (Minors) Tournament at Leinwand Park.

Jayce Hatcher, Braylon Cromartie and Easton Bostic combined to pitch a four-hitter and strike-out 9 West Robeson batters.

Hatcher was hit by a pitch, and C. J. McCracken slammed a double in the Elizabethtown first inning. Claxton Tatum knocked in both Hatcher and McCracken with a two-out single.

Jaxon Hair, Collin Cole and Cromartie started the Elizabethtown second inning with consecutive singles. Cromartie’s hit plated Hair, and Fox Sutton’s fielder’s choice scored Cole. Hunter Wood laced a two-out single that scored Cromartie with the fifth run.

McCracken walked in the winners’ third inning and raced home when Joshua Dawson hammered a double. Cromartie was hit by a pitch and scored a run in the Elizabethtown fourth inning.

Tyler Eason walked in the fifth inning and dashed home on Cromartie’s sacrifice fly with the final Elizabethtown run.

Tatum led the winners at the plate with two hits and two runs batted in. McCracken doubled and scored twice. Dawson doubled home a run. Hatcher, Hair, Cole, Cromartie and Wood connected for one hit each.

Cromartie drove in two runs and scored twice. Hatcher, Hair, Cole and Eason scored runs, and Wood and Sutton drove in runs.

Elizabethtown advances to play Lumberton Maroon Saturday at 10 a.m. The Maroon team received a bye Friday. In other opening round action Friday night, West Robeson American defeated Lumberton Gold 16-1, and Fairmont defeated Red Springs 12-1.
