ELIZABETHTOWN – Jayce Hatcher and Braylon Cromartie combined to pitch a 2-hit shutout and strike outnine9 batters Monday night as Elizabethtown advanced to the championship game of the Dixie Youth Baseball District 9 AAA (Minors) Tournament with an 8-0 victory over West Robeson National.

Hatcher pitched 4.1 innings and struck out six batters while allowing only one hit and three walks. Cromartie worked the final 1.2 innings and struck out three batters while allowing one hit and one walk.

Elizabethtown jumped in front with three runs in the first inning. Hatcher and Tyler Eason reached base on errors, and C. J. McCracken belted a single. Easton Bostic and Collin Cole drew walks, and Hunter Wood knocked in a run with a single. Hatcher, McCracken and Eason scored runs.

Claxton Tatum laced a single to begin Elizabethtown’s three-run third-inning. McCracken was hit by a pitch, and Joshua Dawson ripped a single to drive in Tatum. Eason cracked a single, and Bostic walked. McCracken scored, and Cole connected for a single that scored Dawson for a 6-0 lead.

Tatum ignited another Elizabethtown rally in the fourth inning with a single. McCracken reached base on an error, and Dawson walked. Eason smashed a single that scored Tatum, and Cole delivered another single as McCracken scored the game’s final run.

Cole batted a perfect 2-for-2 with a run batted in. Tatum finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Eason also batted 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. McCracken, Dawson and Wood added one hit each. McCracken scored three runs, and Hatcher and Dawson scored one run each. Dawson and Wood drove in one run each.

Elizabethtown will play West Robeson American, an 11-8 winner Monday over Fairmont, in Tuesday’s championship game.
