WILMINGTON – Juniors Malcolm Bolden and Zamar Lewis combined for 32 points Wednesday to lead East Bladen to a 54-37 boys’ basketball victory over Topsail in the Hoggard Holiday Classic.

Bolden topped all scorers with 17 points, while Lewis worked the paint for 15 points. Junior Jacob Nixon pumped in 9 points for the winners, and junior Malaki Monroe netted 5 points.

Lewis and Bolden tossed in 2 baskets each to spark the Eagles to an early lead. Nixon fired in a 3-point shot, and junior Jordan Mathis added a basket as East Bladen went up 13-8 at the quarter break.

Junior Cam White buried a 3-point shot, and Bolden threw in 2 more baskets in the 2nd period. Lewis powered in a basket, and freshman Dominick Collins cashed in a free throw to keep the East halftime lead at 23-16.

The Eagle defense stymied the Pirates holding them to only 4 points in the 3rd period. Bolden and Monroe buried 3-point shots, and Nixon and Lewis dropped in baskets as a 12-4 East run opened up a 35-20 lead.

Lewis rattled the rims with 3 baskets and a free throw in the final quarter, and Bolden attacked the basket for 2 baskets and a free throw. Nixon pumped in a 3-ball, and Monroe and senior Nazire Smith threw in a basket each.

Spencer Henry bombed in a trio of 3-balls in the final quarter and led the Pirates with 13 points. Teammate Ethan Humphries tallied 8 points.

Coach Aking Elting’s Eagles evened their record at 4-4 and will begin conference play Tuesday night when they entertain West Bladen.
